Vinylmation Dreaming - Inside Out

Welcome to Vinylmation Dreaming, where I talk about a Vinylmation series I dream that Disney would make. Today I want to talk about how I would design an Inside Out Vinylmation series. I would make this an 8 figure blind box set with the following as the 7 common figures:

Bing Bong

Riley

I think they could do some great accessories for Bing Bong's hat and tail! Like they did for the Haunted Mansion Portrait and the Cheshire Cat. They could also put an accessory on Fear's head and give Riley a backpack accessory. I would like to see Joy and Disgust on the Minnie mold too.

I also think it would be awesome to include Bing Bong disappearing as a variant, in the same way they made a Vinylmation of the Cheshire Cat disappearing:

Finally, for the chaser, I would choose Rainbow Unicorn:

Again, I think they could do some great things with an accessory for her horn, and maybe even her hair. I know Inside Out is not a recent release, and is now available to own on DVD and Blu-ray, but I still think this series would be a big hit! I know if it was made well, I would buy a case!

Vinylmation Stories - Indiana Jones

Indiana Jones is one of my favorite movie franchises, so I love seeing Raiders of the Lost Ark come to life in the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular at Disney's Hollywood Studios. I will never get tired of seeing that show, especially because the experience is a little different each time with a new set of volunteers for the extras.

There are two reasons I had to have this figure. First, I think it is expertly designed by Thomas Scott. It is not easy to translate humans on the the Mickey mold, and although Indy in unavoidably chubby, I think his face is absolutely perfect - he looks just like Harrison Ford! The legendary hat is of course a must, so I'm thrilled that they used an accessory that looks the part instead of trying to paint the hat in to the figure.

His outfit is designed brilliantly too, including the satchel that Indy is never without in Raiders. Finally, the ears have been expertly designed, with fantastic detail that accurately reflects the scenery behind our hero as he attempts to steal the Golden Idol.

The second reason why this Vinylmation was a must for me is because the Epic Stunt Spectacular took on a whole new sentimental meaning for me in 2013 when my husband and I were chosen to be shoppers in the Cairo marketplace. This figure is from the Indiana Jones series, and was not designed to reflect the live action show at Hollywood Studios. However, since Indy is the show's star, this Vinylmation serves as a great reminder of the attraction.

My love of Indiana Jones, the wonderful artwork of Thomas Scott, and the reminder of my time as an Epic Stunt Spectacular extra, is the story behind why I had to add Indiana Jones to my collection.

Zootopia Vinylmation Coming Soon

A picture has surfaced on a Disney Cast Member's Instagram account of a Zootopia Vinylmation set. Further information on this set is currently unavailable, but it appears from the picture to be an 8 figure blind box set. The movie is slated to release on March 4, 2016 so I would anticipate the series will be released on or close to that date. Stay tuned to Vinylmation Isle for more information on this series as it becomes available

I am pretty excited to see this movie from the hilarious trailer, and I'm even more excited that there will be Vinylmation series! This set is already looking good and I think it's a great item of merchandise to accompany the new film.

UPDATE 1/23/16 - The Zootopia Vinylmation series will be released on January 29, 2016 and each blind box will retail for $12.95

The Backside of Vinyls - Anubis

I delayed my first Backside of Vinyls post of 2016 due to the 3rd Annual Vinylmation Isle Awards, but here it is! This week I'm looking at Anubis from Park #5. The whole figure is based on the Anubis statue from the end of the Indiana Jones scene in The Great Movie Ride over at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Therefore, much of the back of the figure is pretty similar to the front, as a continuation of the Anubis statue. However, the back of the head draws from the ark that Indy and Sallah are carrying:

But, the design on the back of this vinyl has a twist: while at first glance it looks like the same hieroglyphics from the ark, it actually has a Disney flair, showing Mickey dressed as a Pharaoh with Donald bowing before him, dressed like our tour guide in to the movies from the Anubis scene:

It's one of those neat little touches that doesn't directly represent something from the ride, and some may never notice about the vinyl, but it gives the figure that little something extra, a nice surprise for collectors that shows the thought and time the artist (Maria Clapsis) put in to the figure. That to me is part of the reason why Vinylmation is a collectible like no other.

Vinylmation Stories - Carousel of Progress John

I'm a huge fan of Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress because it was created by the man himself. I love the journey it takes you on throughout the years with the same American family. There are memorable quotes, funny jokes, great scenes and of course a catchy theme song. The Carousel of Progress has stood the test of time since 1964, and I think it should continue long in to the future.

What I love about this Vinylmation is the way it features each of John's outfits from all 4 scenes in the Carousel of Progress, to encompass the whole attraction in one figure. As you can see from my Backside of Vinyls post, he even has a fan in his back pocket with the attraction's logo.

The Carousel of Progress is a must-do attraction for me every time I visit the World. That, coupled with the creativity of this Vinylmation is why I had to add John to my collection.
