Vinylmation Review - Poster Art Series Part #1

For today's Vinylmation Review, I will be continuing to look at the Poster Art Series. I have broken this post into 4 parts, and for Part #1, I will be looking at the first 3 figures in the set: January through March. You might also like to read my 2013 Poster Art Series Overview Review.

January

The January figure is a great piece of art that incorporates almost every aspect of its respective poster. The upside-down Sorcerer's hat on the belly of the figure translates wonderfully from the center of the poster. (It also kinda looks like a tuxedo which is cool). The "Believe in Magic" banner from the bottom of the poster features toward the bottom of the figure and also on the back feet, with 2013 taken from the poster's left and right sides down there on the front January's feet. I love the big bold "Twenty" on the hat just like on the poster, without missing the red hidden Mickey detail.

The big iconic "13" is exact on the figure's face as it is on the poster, the same colors, font, shading - complete with shooting stars. The blue stripes from the background of the poster feature on Mickey's ears and hat on the front and back of the figure. Of course Mickey can't be forgotten! His face features perfectly on the back of the figure, underneath the "Always Lucky" banner from the center of the poster. Amazing work here, love it!

February
February poster art

February is a pretty cute and sweet Vinylmation figure featuring Minnie. Here we have Minnie dressed in her signature red polka dot dress, wearing a red apron that reads "Baker's Dozen", taken from the store window on the poster. Instead of a chef's hat like in the poster, the February figure keeps the theme of the Sorcerer's hat, which is clear, with frosted cupcakes piled up like the cake tray in the poster.

The February figure has a cute Minnie expression and on the rim of her hat, we can see alternating red and white stripes to match the canopy of the store window in the poster. Much more simple in design than some of the other Poster Art series figures, however this figure is drawn from a much more simple poster. Still a great figure, featuring artwork that's spot on with the poster.

March
Walt Disney World March poster art

I think the poster art for March is colorful and fun, with a vinyl figure to match. Donald is a great choice to mix the series up a little by adding another character. The March figure features Donald in the same green shirt as the poster, complete with yellow cuffs and a yellow bow tie. The Donald figure has the same happy, open-mouthed expression as Donald in the poster, and his eyes are also squinted shut with excitement.

The swirls and dots from the background of the poster are represented in Donald's left and right ear respectively, with the clovers featuring on the front and back of his Sorcerer's hat. The rim of the hat is yellow to match Donald's outfit and on the back of the hat features the silver horseshoe from the center of the poster. I love the neat little touches of feathers on the sides of Donald's head and also his cute little tail. Another spot on poster figure with a lot of detail included.

My only slight criticism is that I would have liked to see some stars from the back of the poster added into the figure. Perhaps in one of the ears or the rim of the hat? I think the bright colors work well here and there's no overdoing it. Maybe the orange and yellow stars would have rounded the color palette better in his right ear than more green, but overall the color balance is great and truly reflects the poster.
