Vinylmation's 5th Anniversary

Steven Miller (Disney Merchandise Communications Manager) posted the backstory of Vinylmation today over at the Disney Parks Blog, to celebrate it's 5th Anniversary. He also explained the 5th Anniversary Vinylmation figure, which will be released tomorrow (November 8).

The above figure commemorates the 5th anniversary of the Vinylmation collectible and was designed by Disney Design Group artist Thomas Scott. The figure has a limited edition of 1,000 and will be sold in a blind box. 900 of the figures will be the black figure pictured on the right, while the remaining 100 will be the green figure pictured left. The figure is available only from the Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resorts.

Here's a summary taken from several articles Steven posted over at the Disney Parks Blog:

"I find it difficult to believe that Vinylmation is celebrating 5 years. I've been writing about these collectible figures since October 2009. On November 7, 2008, Vinylmation was introduced at the Festival of the Masters event in Walt Disney World. Today, Vinylmation is found at numerous places around the world, including: Disney Parks, Disney Stores, online and even on Facebook.

"Vinylmation is about expressing creativity and the mysterious thrill of the chase. It's a thrill for our Disney Artists who see the Vinylmation figure as a blank canvas. The inspiration comes from everywhere - Disney Park icons, urban landscapes and even holidays. With each figure having a distinctive art style and personality, the difficult part is choosing a favorite.

"When we were creating Vinylmation, I never thought it would be where it is today. We dreamed it would be big, but never thought we would have entire stores dedicated to Vinylmation. We learned a lot about creating designs that were simple to translate to the Mickey shaped canvas. It wasn't easy at first. This gave us the challenge to create designs that were fun and visually appealing, while being easy to capture on the form".

As I've only been collecting since 2011, it's hard to believe that Vinylmation is turning 5.
